More Meta Mingling

It feels like there's a lot of setup to finally get to the reason I started this blog, however, I am kindly reminding myself that all of this matters. All of this is the blog. Building a solid foundation is key and an awareness of what this is and what writing and interacting with the internet has been is super helpful to me. I want this to last and be a meaningful experience so looking at things I've written prior to this and what was successful about them seems worthy. Here are two blogs I'm proud of:

I kept a travel / culture / language blog while living in Kobe Japan for a year. Initially when I returned to the states, I thought I would keep it going but it became apparent that it's purpose was served and I ended it.

ふとんがふっとんだ Flying Futons, Exchange Student blog

I can sense the perceived audience in this blog (I believe some of its writing had some academic purpose at the time) but the emotional extremism has died down quite a bit since my high school blog. I'm clearly trying to document my experiences and thoughts rather than my emotional state although there is still a little bit of that going on. There is emotional passion and an exploration of ego through culture and language learning.

Maybe my absolute favorite blog was this short lived art blog.

The Secret Life of Luck the Bear, Experimental Art Blog

I lived in a communal home that had rescued an oversized teddy bear found on the street. It came to have a life of it's own, being posed and placed all around the house. Referenced in people's writing and stories, being someone to snuggle or lie on. My desire was to mix and match different art mediums and styles depicting this bear with random quotes or words. Something that was lite and playful but had emotional weight. There is a very simple and focused drive to the whole thing which makes it especially fun to return to. If I recall this was suppose to be a secret blog that was referenced in some real world scavenger hunt or mystery puzzle. I wish that part wasn't so hazy right now. The blog ended when Luck moved out.

Both of these blogs had a purpose and ended of natural causes. So I hope the case to be with this blog. It may die some day, as will I, as long as the blog has a purpose and that purpose is known I think it will be immensely valuable.

And the purpose is... (Next time!)
